NASCAR Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony
From whowon.com: Gavin will perform along with Toni Braxton and jazz pianist Eric Lewis at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony on December 2 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.

Star Lounge Compilation CD
From Melissa: There is a new compilation CD out in Southern
California from Star 98.7 radio station that has Gavin singing
Chariot on it and also has the DVD video from strippedmusic.com
of Chariot on it-Chariot is the only video on it. Star 98.7 has a
special CD that comes out every year around this time and there are
limited copies. They donate a portion of the proceeds toward City of
Hope and The Art of Elysium- You can read more about it on
tower.com and you can order it online before they sell out.
There are a number of other artists that sing on there... They are
"stripped songs" and the version of Chariot that is on here doesn't
sound like one I have heard before.

Gavin's hometown paper, the Times Herald-Record, has put together a special photo journey documenting Gavin's rise to stardom. It's a two-page newspaper poster in
the middle of the entertainment section, Go!, in last Friday's paper (sorry for not posting sooner).

Johannes Project Benefit Concert/BBQ
Barring any last minute engagements, Gavin will make a cameo appearance at a Tsunami benefit on August 6 called "Under the Stars", to raise money for the
Johannes Project and Tsunami relief.
Location: Mays Field Rte 208 in Washingtonville, NY.
Time: 6pm-9pm Saturday August 6. Bring blankets, there will be a barbecue, concession stands, and music by Twist and Shout, a Beatles tribute band.
Tickets are on sale now at www.johannesproject.com and local places: $20 in advance, $25 at the door
Jimmy Kimmel Live and Jay Leno
Gavin will be a guest co-host on Jimmy Kimmel Live on August 31. The show is on ABC at 12:05am EST. Also, Gavin's appearance on Leno on August 11 is new, and will be filmed that day.

New Album in 2006
From Eric: According to my brother, who works in radio, J Records is looking at a 2006 release
date for his sophomore set and a live DVD prior to that.
Johannes Project Charity Concert
An update and correction about the Johannes Project charity concert and BBQ on August 6th in Washingtonville, NY.
Gavin will be performing just a few songs, but not with his usual band. Another band, Twist and Shout, that is popular locally, will provide most of the music.
Some of the proceeds will be used by the Johannes Project to help support
Sara Adammson, the mother of Johannes, as she recovers emotionally and economically from the devastation
of loosing her son, husband, and mother in the Tsunami. Johannes Project will focus on honoring the memory of Johannes and all the
children who were lost.
Teen Choice Awards
Thanks to Caroline for pointing out that Gavin is nominated for 2 Teen Choice Awards, for
"Music Choice Rock Track": I Don't Want To Be" and "Breakout Artist". The awards will be broadcast on FOX at 8pm/7c on August 16.

Johannes Project Charity Concert
As I mentioned in the last update, Gavin has been supporting Project Johannes,
an effort to try to find a boy who went missing in the Tsunami. After months of searching, Johannes' body has been found.
Gavin was scheduled to do a charity concert on August 6th in Washingtonville, NY at the Brotherhood Winery to help the cause.
The concert will still take place, with proceeds being donated in Johannes' name to Operation Blessing in
Thailand and Gospel for Asia, who are taking care of 10,000 displaced children
from the Tsunami.

I added an Mp3 of a new song called Never the Same, thanks to Bobby and Acacia.
The song has actually been around for a while, but Gavin recently started playing it
again at shows.
New Tour Dates

Rock and Roll Library Contest Review
Charlotte's school won the grand prize in the Rock and Roll Library contest, so she sent in a little review.
On Thursday May 19, Gavin performed at my high school,
Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, in Acton, MA. The performance
was part of the grand prize won by English teacher Julia Buonopane.
Buonopane entered into a contest put on by the Rock and Roll Library
asking teachers to create a lesson plan using the lyrics to "I Don't
Wanna Be". She created a plan linking the song's meaning to
Transcendentalism and had her students write essays doing the same.
Last February, Buonopane learned that she had won the Grand
Prize!!! Today when Gavin came to our school, he had a
question-and-answer session with Buonopane's students and followed
up by an AMAZING concert. I was simply speechless during the whole
performance. He was favorite performer (ever!) before he came to my
school, but now it's almost indescribable how much I love him and
his music!!

BRAFF SCRUBS IN - On March 28th, Scrubs star Zach Braff, who also wrote
and directed the indie film Garden State, shot a video for Gavin DeGraw's new
single "Chariot", for which the actor recruited Scrubs cast-mate Donald Faison
(as a rapper) and Jaime King (as a sexy record executive). Adding to the
wattage, Rene Russo, Dennis Quaid and Susan Sarandon - who all happened to be
filming nearby - stopped by the shoot to say hello. But the party really started
the night before, when Braff and DeGraw ate dinner at The Blvd., the new
restaurant at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. DeGraw just couldn't keep himself
away from the piano, giving lucky diners an impromptu hour-long concert that
included his big hit "I Don't Wanna Be."

Gavin's appearance on Regis and Kelly was postponed because he was sick. It has been
tentatively rescheduled for May.
108 KISS Concert
From Amanda: Gavin will be playing at the annual 108 KISS Concert
on May 21, 2005 at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA. This is an
all day event and it has been confirmed that Gavin will be there.
Swedish Tour Date
Sofie wrote in to say that Gavin will be playing at Debaser in Stockholm, Sweden on June 6. More European dates will probably follow.

Chariot Video
Gavin was scheduled to film the video for Chariot yeterday in Los Angeles.
Zach Braff is directing it, and had this to say on his blog: "In other news, I'm once again directing Gavin DeGraw's video for the song "Chariot". If you don't know
it, check it out. I think he's a real talent and someone who's gonna be around
for a long time. We're shooting next tuesday in LA and it's gonna be really
cool. The whole video is one long continuos shot as Gavin and a girl navigate
through this crazy set that's constantly changing. It's my first time doing a
real video. I did one for the Scrubs theme song, but it wasn't a real video with
an actual budget."

member of: "It's a slam dunk for Kelly Clarkson, who's set to headline the third
annual Dasani Festival in St. Louis next month. The free, all-day
concert takes place April 3 on the Gateway Mall and is just one of
several free events associated with the Men's Final Four NCAA
Basketball Tournament, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Besides

Tsunami Benefit Song
From The Associated Press: Sharon Stone and Denise Rich have joined together to produce a song to benefit
the victims of the Dec. 26 Asian earthquake-tsunami disaster. The "Basic Instinct" actress and the socialite-songwriter are co-writing
a single, "Come Together Now," to be sung by a collection of recording artists
in the style of the 1985 song "We Are the World," which raised funds for Africa.
Aretha Franklin, Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Cole, Wyclef Jean, Peter Gabriel,
Patti LaBelle, Lionel Richie, Mya, JoJo, Gavin DeGraw, Bryan McKnight, Kelly
Price and Paulina Rubio are among those scheduled to participate, it was
announced Friday.

Gavin Sings at Patriots and Celtics Games
From bostonherald.com: In the words of Indianapolis Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt, the bold-facers were
"ripe for the picking" as the New England Patriots stampeded the
Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium last night. ... Pop prince Gavin DeGraw pulled oh-say-can-you-see duty, before the F-18
flyover and fireworks kicked off the festivities. Word is DeGraw was in town for
the Celtics game on Friday night and left the next day for a show in
Pennsylvania but after being dissed by Lenny Kravitz, the Pats wanted
DeGraw so badly, they flew him in for the national anthem even though Gavin had
to leave right after kick-off for a gig in Ohio.

Chelsey reports that the album Chariot went Platinum on Friday. This means that one million units have been shipped to retailers. Also, Lisa says that "I Don't Want to Be" was #1 on VH1's Top 20 Countdown on Saturday.

Teen TV Dramas Help Emerging Music Stars
Erin sent in this article about music used in TV shows. Here's the part that mentions Gavin:
Gavin DeGraw has seen the payoff. When his debut album, "Chariot," was released in the summer
of 2003, it was accompanied by high expectations, but his yearning ballads
didn't get much attention from radio or music fans. However, DeGraw did receive weekly attention from TV — notably from "One Tree
Hill," whose producers made "I Don't Wanna Be" the show's theme song when it
debuted on the WB in fall 2003. And as the show steadily grew in the ratings, "I
Don't Wanna Be" grew in popularity as well, and by the end of 2004, the song had
become a hit and the album had been certified gold. "It's so effective, no doubt about it," says DeGraw, whose TV exposure
includes appearances on the NBC show "American Dreams."
